Consistent with requirements, Irvine Company submitted an Irrevocable Offer of Dedication for the easement to the city of Irvine in November 2025.

  • We are still refining plans for the lower-density village concept and the final number will be determined by the size and shape of the nature park.
  • Overall, we anticipate a significant reduction from the original plan and thousands fewer than the 5,000 allowed by the city’s general plan on and around the golf course property.

  • The city’s general plan allows upwards of 5,000 apartment units on portions of the golf course property and adjacent sites.
  • This is reflected in the approved General Plan Update in 2024.
  • Please view the City’s June 14 presentation that states, “For portions of project area that are located in Focus Area 2, Irvine Company has existing rights to develop up to 5,000 residential units.” (Pages 5 and 6)
  • You can also view the City’s General Plan Update and refer to the Land Use Element, Page 35 (Figure 1) and Page 60-61 (Figures 7 & 8)

  • According to the City Attorney, the city “is not legally required to seek voter approval to change the open space designation.”
  • Still, Irvine Company seeks to dedicate more than 350 acres to continue our decades-long commitment to providing open spaces into public ownership.

  • The zone amendment is a public process to provide transparency and openness as to the planning of the nature park.
  • It provides an option for the city to pursue a nature park in the future and commits Irvine Company to more than 350 acres of land dedications (50+ for the nature park and 300+ in north Irvine) and tens of millions of dollars to build and deliver the nature park, should it be pursued by the city.
  • As the nature park will be the cornerstone of the new village, the size and financial costs of the park must be defined before creating the full master plan for the new village.

We encourage residents to learn more about the initiative. Our primary focus is planning Irvine’s largest Nature Park alongside the community.

  • Following several months of community dialogue, Irvine Company acknowledged that any future village in central Irvine at the privately owned golf course should include expansive center-city open space.
  • That led to the creation of the nature park idea and community-driven process to define its character.
