Council approves nature park zoning

April 29th 2026

The Irvine City Council voted 7-0 to approve a zoning amendment allowing an alternative option for the privately owned Oak Creek Golf Club. The vote was confirmed on a second reading.

This approval follows a community-based nature park master-planning effort led by park experts Jenny Rigby and Sean O’Malley. Through public workshops and surveys, thousands of Irvine residents provided input to shape the 50-plus-acre park’s vision, prioritizing features such as nature trails, creeks, native plant botanical gardens and woodlands.

Next steps in the process for consideration include environmental review studies and planning the nature park’s relationship to a future village, which could include a residential community, a new IUSD school and other benefits.
