Irvine Company partners with UC Irvine to host its Future Leaders Initiative

Regal Irvine Spectrum transformed into a classroom recently, as 150 regional high school students visited the movie theater as part of UC Irvine’s Future Leaders Initiative

The students weren’t there to watch the latest showing of “The Odyssey” or the premiere of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Instead, they were there to advance their pursuit of higher education, especially in the realm of STEM.

“This is such a valuable partnership,” said Kevin Bradford, professor at UCI’s Paul Merage School of Business and director of the Future Leaders Initiative. “This is about taking excellent students and making them even more motivated by exposing them to aspirational examples, like Irvine Company, to navigate toward success.”

Irvine Company has hosted a day of the initiative four years in a row. Each year, the partnership allows Company leaders to share insights on the master planning and real estate business.

“What stood out was how detailed and precise Irvine Company’s processes are,” said high school student and participant, Kylie. “I learned how much care they put into Irvine Spectrum and how complex it is. It was really great.”

This year, high schoolers were treated to a special behind-the-scenes tour of the new Holey Moley and Hijinx Hotel to show how unique merchants keep Spectrum Center vibrant and one of California’s premier shopping, dining and entertainment destinations.
