Souperb! New spots for savory broths

The ultimate comfort food? Soup – and even more so in the chilly months. These new dining destinations specialize in the savory broths of Chinese and Vietnamese noodle soups and Japanese shabu.

Ten Seconds Yunnan Rice Noodle at Campus Plaza is fast yet feels like a feast. Two dozen rice noodle soup styles served in a 300-degree stone pot include the mild Original Crossing-the-Bridge pork bone soup with sliced beef and chicken wings and the Sichuan Hot and Spicy soup with chunked brisket. Do not leave without trying the Durian Lava Balls.

Vietnamese noodle house Soup Shop at Los Olivos Marketplace offers 10 styles of pho. All feature 24-hour slow-cooked beef bone broth plus thin noodles, garnishes and add-ons. Consider rib-eye, brisket or meatball; a combination of those and lots more; and others with rib bones or prized oxtails. Chicken or shrimp versions can be made with veggie broth.

All-you-can-eat wagyu hot pot? We’re there – there being Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House at Westpark Plaza. Choice of four delicious broths from savory sukiyaki to spicy Mala miso set the scene for elaborate tiers of Japanese A5, Australian and American wagyu. All meals include wagyu appetizers as well as optional seafood, Jidori chicken and Kurobuta pork.
