Mr. Moto Pizza at The Square

Mr. Moto Pizza is known for hand-tossed New York-style pizzas featuring a secret-recipe dough, crispy bottoms, fluffy edges and creative topping combinations. The large pizzas are huge, 18 inches across, and individual slices are large, too.

The top seller? Not a pizza. That would be the stuffed knot, a fresh-baked garlic knot made with pillowy dough and filled with spinach, ricotta, mozzarella cheese and savory toppings such as jalapeno and pepperoni.

It’s been a little more than a decade since the charismatic Gibran Fernandez, then known for his madcap persona and oversized mustache, founded Mr. Moto Pizza in San Diego’s Pacific Beach neighborhood; he also inspired the logo.

The fast-serve spot is now at The Square and opening soon at Oak Creek Shopping Center.

More than 20 white- or red-sauce pizza styles, many visually alluring, are offered at any given time.

Recent iterations include the Piece of Art with pepperoni, burrata, basil, spicy honey and Parmesan cheese; the Mr. Moto with Italian sausage, Spanish chorizo, burrata and marinara; and the Furious Diablo with garlic chicken, buffalo sauce and house-made ranch on a garlic base.

Specials on pizza slices are offered regularly. Outdoor shaded seating delights. The slogan: “With Love, Mr. Moto.”
