Din Tai Fung to open at Irvine Spectrum Center on March 2

World-renowned dumpling destination Din Tai Fung will officially open its doors at Irvine Spectrum Center on March 2, bringing one of the world’s most celebrated Taiwanese restaurants to the heart of Irvine.

The restaurant will host a reservation-only soft opening beginning Feb. 6 ahead of the grand opening, which is expected to draw diners familiar with Din Tai Fung’s reputation for precision, consistency and warm hospitality.

Din Tai Fung’s story dates back to 1958, when it was founded in Taipei as a small cooking oil retail shop by Bing-Yi Yang and his wife, Pen-Mei Lai. In 1972, the couple began selling xiao long bao — delicate soup dumplings made with thin wrappers and precise folds. The dish quickly gained a devoted following, prompting the founders to transition fully into the restaurant business.

Today, Din Tai Fung is known for preparing the same dishes the same way across its locations in Taiwan, Southern California and overseas. The menu includes pork and shrimp xiao long bao, other dumplings, steamed buns, handmade noodles, fried rice, vegetable dishes and vegan options, served in modern dining rooms. Open kitchens allow guests to watch dumplings being made throughout the day.

The brand operates in 13 countries worldwide, with its Hong Kong location earning a Michelin Star five times.
