Between the Rinks at Great Park Ice is a great place to chill

“Eat. Skate. Drink.” That’s the motto at Great Park Ice & FivePoint Arena, a vast complex considered to be the largest ice facility in California.

The skate part – public skating, classes, figure skating and games – is on four rinks. With hockey season underway, there’s even more activity than usual. The facility is also the official practice facility of the Anaheim Ducks.

Eating and drinking take place at Between the Rinks, a restaurant and bar on the second floor of Great Park Ice with views overlooking two rinks, and a fast-casual cafe on the ground floor.

The clean-lined, contemporary restaurant upstairs has a sports-bar vibe, thanks to screens showing professional games, a wall tastefully displaying more than a thousand pucks from pro hockey teams and a foosball table.

Menu options are as varied as street tacos, poutine, a customizable burger, fettuccine Alfredo and pan-seared salmon over purple rice. There’s also a well-curated selection of draft beers, wines by the glass and spirits.

Among the highlights at the cafe downstairs are fried-egg avocado toast with chile crunch, Thai coconut curry chicken bowl and grilled peanut butter and jelly. Beverages include beer and wine as well as espresso and smoothies.
